The Potteries Walkway is eight and a half miles long, and introduces the visitor to the characteristic features of the Potteries landscape. Westport Lake now occupies a former area of waterlogged wasteland landscaped under the City of Stoke-on-Trent's Reclamation Programme.

The Walkway starts in Longton and proceeds via Glebedale Park and Smith's Pool into Stoke. The route then joins the Trent and Mersey Canal to enter the Fowlea Valley. At Westport Lake the trail follows the Greenway to the walkway's destination at the site of the former Tunstall Station.
