Wast Water, 258 ft. (78.6 m) deep, is a stony-shored lake; the home of brown trout and char. Wasdale Head is set in its amphitheatre of great fells, and the famous view consists of Yewbarrow on the left; Kirk Fell almost hidden; Great Gable; then the lower slopes of Lingmell - an outlier of Scafell. Wasdale Head is the perfect centre for the climber and walker; with rock climbs on the crags of Great Gable, and on the Central Buttress and the Pinnacle of Scafell Crag. One of the finest walking routes is an exciting and scenic way from Sty Head - the Corridor Route to Scafell Pike. From Wasdale Head there are exhilarating through walks to Borrowdale, Langdale and Eskdale. |
