HERE AND THERE IN BRITAIN

TB1 A wide-ranging journey from the Staffordshire Moorlands and Dovedale in the Peak District to Suffolk, Dorset, Scilly Isles, Welsh Marches, Cheshire, Yorkshire and Northumberland.

A CAMBRIAN WAY

TC1 A 320 mile (512 km) mountain walk over the 'roof of Wales' from Caerdydd to Conwy; including the Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons, Fforest Fawr, Pumlumon Fawr, Cadair Idris, The Rhinogs, The Moelwyns, Cnicht, Y Wyddfa and the Carneddau.

COAST TO COAST

TC2 A 190 mile (304 km) long distance walk from St. Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire. The route crosses The Lakeland mountains, the Pennine Moors and dales and the North York Moors.

THE DALES WAY

TD1 An 80 mile (128 km) walk from Ilkley in Wharfedale to Bowness-on-Windermere. A landscape of sylvan dales, swift-flowing rivers, gentle hills and a quiet approach to Lakeland.

WALKING IN EDEN

TE1 A journey through the villages and countryside of the Eden Valley in Cumbria. Wild Boar Fell and the impressive Mallerstang Edges that overlook the scenic upper reaches of the Eden. (See Walking in Eden.)

THE LAKE DISTRICT THROUGH THE SEASONS

TL1 A journey illustrating the valleys, settlements and mountains of the English Lake District through its colourful seasons.

THE LONG WALK, CAPE WRATH TO LANDS END

TL2 The story of a 1,360 mile (2,176 km) solo walk, mainly on paths, tracks, mountain and moorland through Scotland, England and Wales.

THE PENNINE DALES

TP1 A look at the hills, moorlands, valleys and settlements of northern England from the Peak District to the Roman Wall. Old communication routes, packhorse tracks, bridges, fords and guidestones.

THE PENNINE WAY

TP2 A 270 mile (432 km) walk along the backbone of northern England; the first designated long-distance footpath in Britain. A landscape of peaty moorlands, limestone dales and uplands, and the rolling Cheviot Hills.

THE RAVENBER

TR1 A 209 mile (334 km) long distance coast to coast walk across northern England from Ravenglass in Cumbria to Berwick-upon-Tweed in Northumberland. The route, devised by Ron Scholes, passes through two National Parks, the northern Pennines, the Cheviot Hills and alongside the River Tweed. (See Coast to Coast on the Ravenber Way.)

SCOTLAND, THE LOWLANDS

TS1 A journey through the Borders, Dumfries and Galloway. Remote hills, deep forests, fine coastal and estuary scenery. Glen Trool and the magnificent Galloway Hills. The Isle of Arran: 'Scotland in miniature'. Book Published

THE SHETLAND ISLES

TS2 A journey through Britain's most northerly islands; their complex geology, magnificent coastline, and many examples of its ancient past. A look at Fair Isle, its observatory and seabird colonies.

TWO ISLES WALK TT1 From the Isle of Wight to the Isle of Anglesey (to be ready in Autumn 2004).

 

UNDERSTANDING THE COUNTRYSIDE

TU1 A wide-ranging look at the impact of civilisation on Britain's landscape. (See Understanding the Countryside.)

AROUND WALES

TW1 A journey through the Principality with a look at the landscape, settlements and places of interest.

YORKSHIRE DALES

TY1 A journey through an area of outstanding natural beauty, visiting the major and some lesser-known dales. Gritstone, limestone, caves, scars, waterfalls and green roads. The resolute lines of dry-stone walls, stone barns and stone built villages. (See Yorkshire Dales.)



Walks outside the U.K.

FROM THE ALPS TO THE PYRENEES

TA1 A journey from Austria's winter wonderland to the sights of southern France. Walks around Mayrhofen and in the Zillertaler Alpen. The valleys of the Dordogne, Lot and Tarn. The towns of Carcassonne, Lourdes, Argeles and a visit to the Cirque de Gavarnie.

TRAVELS IN AUSTRIA AND HUNGARY

TA2 An alpine zoo and the fascinating cities of Vienna and Budapest. Lake Balaton and the region around Eger.

BALKAN JOURNEY

TB2 Travels through the former Yugoslavia, including Kosovo and Montenegro, the Island of Krk and the Adriatic coast. Through Bulgaria to Istanbul and the Sea of Marmara.

THE FAROE ISLANDS

TF1 A journey through the islands of Vagar, Streymoy, Esturoy, Bordoy and Suduroy. The main settlements of Torshavn and Klaksvik, and the villages of Haldorsvik, Tvoroyri, Sorvagur and Gjogv.

GERMANY

TG1 Travels through eastern Germany. Visits to the Harz Mountains, Quedlinburg, Leipzig, Dresden, Berlin, Meissen, Colditz and Gorlitz. A look at the Elbe Valley, the Elbsandstein and Zittauer Gebirge.

A PEEP AT POLAND

TP3 A journey by train through Holland and Germany to Warsaw. The city's recovery after wartime destruction. A trip by wooden raft down the River Dunajec. The Tatra mountains. A walking tour using mountain huts. The old city of Cracow.

AROUND SWITZERLAND

TS3 A journey by train and on foot through magnificent mountain scenery. The cities of Zurich, Luzern, and Bern. Walks around Leukerbad, Burchen, Brig and Zermatt. The Glacier Express and the Jungfraubahn.
